In case you find yourself in an intelligent conversation about Sen. Obama's pastor and want to have some additional insight, here is someone WHITE speaking on behalf of Rev. Wright (come on, you know it helps when you quote white people, LOL)
I pulled these because of some mess I heard on local talk radio Friday. The radio station my show plays on is conservative to say the least. Rush Limbaugh is the main draw during the weekday. Well, a local host tried to take on the Rev. Wright comments but he was ill equipped. A caller said that he was Catholic and has been his entire life and had to endure the priest sleeping with boys scandal. He said Obama can't be held accountable for his pastor's actions. Then the host said something to effect of 'Obama shouldn't subject his wife and children to talk like that and Rev. Wright is the head of that church so he is the equivalent of The Pope.' See, that's some ol' ignant ish right there. So tomorrow on the air I'll address this before I start my "real" show.
NOTE: If you want to listen in, my show is Key Conversations and we are on at 6pm EST you can go here and click LISTEN LIVE (near top right side) and you can hear us. My topic this week is "Black's and Lincoln: What is the connection and why the recent disconnect." Our state is battling with Indiana and Illinois for claim to Lincoln. His 200th birthday is coming and there are celebrations planned and the white folks want Blacks to be on committees to come up with a way to acknowledge him for freeing the slaves and most of us don't want nothing to do with that one. So we're going to to have one of my favorite local scholars on. Her name is Alicestyne Adams and she is the head of the Underground Railroad Research Institute at Georgetown College.
A glimpse into the life and mind of a "Black American Muslim woman" who cannot be totally defined by any combination of those four words.

Delivered from his church...
If you can't make it through this let me recap:
Mayor: I'm sorry I got busted.
Wife: You didn't have to put all our business out like this.
Mayor: In between my rendezvous' I still accomplished some things for you guys.
Wife: I still love him.
Me: I'm glad he apologized. I'll even say a prayer for him. I NEED my city to rise from ashes and right now, he's in charge. So until the investigation is over...he's 'da mayor and whatever pain and embarrassment he's doing through, he deserves it!

Too much for words....
I'm so mad I can't quite get anything together. For two days I've started and stopped posts dedicated to this non-sensikal madness but I can't get it together...
Some bloggers with a little emotional distance from it have taken ol' KK to task:
Check out one of my favorite bloggers here.
And a new found gem here.
What say you?

Those bastards...
This is the last thing I'm going to say about the Vick situation
...probably.
(Note: I wrote much of this back in August and posted it on my other blog which I don't update much. I put it here since Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison today.)
The Michael Vick case is not about sports. It’s about the law…and second chances.
I won’t take up any time recapping his animal abuse/dog fighting charges, as they are easy to find. What has been shocking though, is the number of Blacks who have a zero tolerance for athletes breaking the law. Some bloggers and columnists have gone as far as to say that since Vick broke the law off the field, he should lose the “privilege” of going to work as a football player permanently. If he can’t go back to the NFL, then where is it acceptable for him to find employment? Is there work left in America for someone convicted of dog fighting?
We have become a judgmental society. In 1994 California voters approved a “three strikes and you’re out” law that puts those convicted of a similar felony 3 times away under minimum sentencing guidelines. “60 Minutes” profiled a man who was convicted of shoplifting 3 times and he is now serving two 25 year sentences for stealing less than $200 worth of video tapes.
But now in 2007 we have a one-strike law for Vick. Pretty soon, we won't be given a chance at all and we'll be back in the 1940's where Blacks were considered less than human beings, women couldn't vote and other injustices were imposed by the dominating race and gender.
Is Vick a victim of racism? I say yes, but most of you Black bashing African-Americans will say no. No one called Vick the n-word or called his mother’s hair nappy so it can’t be racism right?
By no means am I saying that we don't need law enforcement. Enforce the law. He was been sentenced and will serve time and hopefully come out alive and in reasonably sound mind.
But what I AM saying is that continuing to punish people after they have served thier time HAS TO STOP.
In Kentucky, convicted felons lose most of their civil rights even after being released from serving their time in prison. They can't own a fire arm, some can't enter the military and none of them can vote.
We have laws against "double jeopardy" but none against double punishment.
In The National Urban Leagues publication, "The State of Black America 2007: Portrait of the Black Male" Barack Obama says this in the foreword and it should apply to Vick’s circumstance:
"The crisis of the Black male is our crisis whether we are Black or white, male or female. It is too easy and sometimes too fashionable to demonize Black men...who have strayed. But in so doing, we degrade ourselves, we weaken the bonds of shared interest that are necessary to sustain us. We fail to give people the first chance they deserve, and the second chance that we all sometimes require."
...probably.

Great minds think alike
After I posted my thoughts on The Cos, one of my friends sent me his take on it. If you haven't heard of Boyce you should check him out. He is an up and coming scholar who writes provocative and critical essays on what's going on. He is often called "The peoples scholar".
Five Reasons Black People Dont Listen to Bill.Cosby

My questions for Dr. Huxtable, as he engages in his ego-maniacal "reign of terror", completed in celebration of his latest cure for 400 years worth of social ills would be listed below. Of course, Bill would never have a conversation with any scholar with the ability to rip his ideas apart. His only response (on the "O" Show, with no dissenters present) is "My critics are all crazy". Sounds like a doctor to me....Here are my questions for "The Cos":
1) Why does Bill only have the courage to blame black people for racial inequality? The baby of racial inequality has both a mother and a father. Sorry Bill, you cant just beat up on the group that cant fight you back. You have to be a bigger man than that.
2) Bill: Ask yourself this question: Why does a man considered to be Americas dad, only feel comfortable addressing the white community when you are telling jokes or dogging your own people? Perhaps that is the only time they will allow you to speak. What better time to address white America for their role in the creation of racial inequality, than during trips to Meet the Press? Bill, do you think more whites than blacks watch that show? Why not talk to the people who are watching?
3) If Bill were to address white America and its institutions as harshly as he addresses blacks, how fast would he be UNINVITED to Meet The Press? Dr. Huxtable would suddenly be as out of favor as OJ Simpson. Even the strongest puppy doesnt bite the hand that feeds him, as Bill has spent many decades eating from the hands of major corporations and media conglomerates who helped create the very problems he is upset about. Like many other "mainstream" African-Americans, Cosby knows full well that any perceived assault on American institutions would lead him to be black-balled from the predominantly white media outlets and right-wing organizations that are cheering him on today.
4) You say that you dont talk to white America because they wont listen to your comments? Well guess what Bill, BLACK PEOPLE dont listen EITHER. Why not speak in a way that challenges both individual behavior and institutional infrastructure? The same way corporations change their business behavior based on IRS rules, individuals change their behavior based on opportunities available, the quality of the school systems, etc. You can't talk about the individual's choices without talking about the individual's options. Bill and O's ridiculously simple-minded analyses of complex social problems is reflective of the growing gap between the rich and poor in the black community. THEY DO NOT REPRESENT ALL BLACK PEOPLE, especially the poor, whom they spend no time listening to. They only feel the need to preach.
5) Its always easiest to attack poor, single black mothers, because they are not invited onto talk shows to defend themselves. Cosby has learned that verbally abusing women and children is an easy way to feel strong and self-righteous. Even among black people, how often has he mentioned BET and his buddy Bob Johnson for their role in creating a generation of hoochie-mamas and wannabe thugs? Oh, I forgot, its all their parents faults, even though many of them are working 12 hours a day at minimum wage, something that Cosby knows little about. Don't you think that if it were that easy to create such a perfect and wonderful life, people would already be doing it? Perhaps someone has persuaded Cosby that the perceived cultural inferiority of black people is quite real, for this is the ONLY message he communicates in his constant ranting to mainstream media.
Bill, in order to solve a problem, mathematics says that you must work on both sides of the equation. Why you are afraid to challenge Americas institutions, but boldly go after black mothers and children is beyond me. It is not productive to walk in the middle of a fight and tell one of the kids that he is wrong, while allowing the other kid to go off and play. But then again, thats the way the black kids are always treated in our school systems, as we learned in the Jena 6 case.
One can't be sure who is worse: Bill, who engages in the non-sensical and unproductive act of complaining about black people in front of predominantly white audiences, or the scientist James Watson, who said that he can prove that black people are genetically inferior to whites. What is scary is that Watson would listen to the words of Cosby and agree with him 100%....did you notice that Bill O'Reilly likes Bill Cosby too?
When a proven racist agrees 100% with what you are saying about your own people, perhaps that should give you a moment of pause. But it doesn't appear that Cosby is pausing....he spends too much time flapping his gums. As a professor, I have a saying "When you are 100% teacher and 0% student, you are 100% idiot." I wish he were still telling those corny jokes.

Die N!&&ers, Die!!!!!!!!!
I know the NAACP buried the word n.i.gg.er, but I didn't. Every once in a while there is just no other appropriate word for a person so ignorant...literally one who is not knowledgeable.
We publish an annual directory of Black owned businesses in the area. It comes out in the fall so right now we are running ads in our paper (the local Black paper).
Last week I had a voice message at my office. It was a young man who was obviously Black basically saying this...
"Me and some other Black business owners were talking and we're sick of this paper talking about Black this and Black that. First you say we all need to come together then you ask for Black people to put their names in this book. Black this and Black that. That shit's crazy. You need to grow up and get a life. Thank you."
I dont' know what other loser business owners he's talking to because we had to stop accepting ads because we had too many for the number of pages we are doing. And what makes a fool pick up the phone just to discourage someone from doing something. Obviously he reads the paper because the ad he mentioned is on page 6 or 10 or somewhere DEEP in the paper.
Just three things dear brother...."Don't hate or participate....Just die nigger, DIE!"

The neighborhood park
We take baby-girl to the park almost daily. Me and my hubby alternate but every time I go I get p'd off by PARENTS ON THE DAGBLAMMED PHONE.
MESSAGE TO THE IDIOTS (feel free to read it even if you aren't one, LOL!)
You bring your CHILD to the playground then sit in a swing that the kids could be swingin' in and talk your ass off!!!
Then your child keeps yellin' "could SOMEBODY help me?" and other parents have to split time with their children to BABYSIT for you.
The best part is this...you talk loud enough for all to hear "yeah, Imma' get off now, I'm at the park with my pookums" and then stay on for another 20 minutes, then as soon as you hang up you say, "Let's go".
Didn't your momma teach you that it's rude to carry on a conversation in front of other people when they aren't included? That includes your children!!!
Are you afraid that someone in the park is going to think that you HAVE to hang out with your child because you don't have friends?
CLUE: You probably don't have any friends because from where I am, I only hear you talking a mile a minute and I'm sure the other person is ignoring you!
OK, I'm done. I just feel so bad for the children who are YEARNING for attention and the selfish dummies who are called parents can't see that.
P.S. I just LOVE watching baby girl play. I feel like the best mom in the world when I see her having a ball.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
What's good?
I did a "Biggest Loser" competition and went to the finale. The sister who won lost over 40 pounds in 12 weeks!!! Impressive. It was a great night of sharing success stories and eating tasty, properly proportioned food. It's always a tense situation when I go to a church. Somehow there's always a negative Muhammad or Allah speech. But we were right at home and they praised
God without tearing down His other names. Shout out to LeDatta, an excellent writer, who was the first runner up and lost BIG poundage. You look GOOD girl! The other good news is, I'm still going with the weight loss and I'm still feeling motivated.
I'll combine the bad and the ugly for this...it's THAT bad and THAT ugly!
Last year I reported a story that was so sad because some teenagers made a bad judgement call and found themselves in trouble with the law. The mothers of the children were clueless as to how to get help and no one around them had sound advice. After we put thier story in the paper a pastor offered to help. It came with a few requirements for the boys but the mom's took the help, because it was the only help offered. As I was covering the case it seemed like a lot of "weird" things were going on so I called 3 "soldiers" and asked them to attend a meeting that the pastor was having with the mothers to make sure he wasn't leading them in the wrong direction. The soldiers suggested picketing in front of the court house to draw attention to the case. The pastor said no, "We're doing this God's way". Did this dude just presume that the soldiers were not with God??? Then all sorts of drama erupted when the pastors wife got up and talked about how she didn't want anything to happen to her husband if they started calling out judges, etc. "The Lord just sent me this man and I'm not going to let anyone take him away from me!" Pu-leeze! Then a scared member of the church started talking about how she saw the police put dogs on people for picketing. Yes, she did!!! Dog's...sicked on people....in Big City Wanna Be,KY .....in 2006!!! Then the pastor talked about having hundreds pack the court room as a show of strength. He couldn't get 15 "protestors" there on any day. So that was a busted idea! Well, needless to say there was not a protest, no public awareness of the case, and the boys were mistreated by the system and were sentenced on Friday to 15, 16 and 17 years in prison. NOW the pastor wants to hold press conferences and have a justice panel with local judges, etc. NOW the pastor is callling in to radio shows that are giving out misinformation and calling for the boys to get the maximum sentence. TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE.
This is both BAD and UGLY and SHAMEFUL. I feel so bad for those boys, that sometimes I want to put down my pen and take to the streets, but someone has to document this crap and I'm glad to do it with as much "slant" as I can. But really, I'd much rather report something PROACTIVE instead of always getting the REACTION.
Why are people afraid to defend the defenseless? Why don't people become involved based on principle instead of based on relationship to the victim?
