"Detroit... you done set me up for a come back"-Kwame Kilpatrick

Yes, he resigned today.

"...after much deliberation with my family, after numerous prayers, fasting, I have made a difficult decision – I believe the most difficult decision of my life – to step down as the mayor of the City of Detroit." READ MORE...

If you are not FROM Detroit you don't understand the loyalty to Kwame. He made some power moves for the city. He was effing up, but don't we all? It didn't become obvious the extent of his eff ups until recently. But Detroit people are loyal to a fault and you have to PROVE someone is wrong before we jump on the band wagon. We've seen too many people get trashed only to find later that it was a set up.

This was not a set up.

So he did the admirable thing, he resigned. He should have done it before it cost the city so much money though.

Could he come back? Sure.

Could he win? Probably.

Take a trip through The D with someone who LOVES the D and you'll understand why. I've had family members visit and say that they never saw the GOOD in the city until I took them on a tour. There is good everywhere, you just have to look harder sometimes to see it. There is a lot to be proud of there. Right now is just a bad time in the long history of The D.

Next...the drama with the city council (that Monica Conyers) and the interim Mayor whose sister is being investigated for something that may take him out too.

Like a Phoenix, we'll rise.

KWAME ALERT!!

It's going to be over momentarily.

I'm disappointed in him and the system that allowed this to go on but now, it's just time.

Damn, damn, damn

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's day at a glance

(AP) — A review of what happened Thursday in the case of Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who's charged with perjury, misconduct and obstruction of justice, all tied to his testimony in a civil trial last year:

District Judge Ronald Giles ordered Kilpatrick to jail for violating the terms of his bond when he traveled to Canada on city business without informing the court in advance. The mayor apologized, but Giles sent him to jail, saying he'd give any defendant the same treatment.

The rest...

What's good in The D

Detroit is more than crime and Kwame.

It's a place that nurtured me and taught me that the Black experience is as diverse as snowflakes. No two people or their stories are ever the same.

My sister is a minister (not a pastor) and each year her church serves as a warming station for the homeless. This is not her church but you can see that it's done across the city.

For a week each church uses their resources to provide for the homeless. Her church does soup and sandwiches and provides blankets and I think some cots. She said some have jobs and need an early wake up. She also said that there is a very organized group that provides them with online information and flyers so they know which churches are open and on which bus line. Though the city is ranked the poorest and many don't have much, we share what we've got and we take care of our own.

Delivered from his church...

If you can't make it through this let me recap:
Mayor: I'm sorry I got busted.
Wife: You didn't have to put all our business out like this.
Mayor: In between my rendezvous' I still accomplished some things for you guys.
Wife: I still love him.

Me: I'm glad he apologized. I'll even say a prayer for him. I NEED my city to rise from ashes and right now, he's in charge. So until the investigation is over...he's 'da mayor and whatever pain and embarrassment he's doing through, he deserves it!

Too much for words....

I'm so mad I can't quite get anything together. For two days I've started and stopped posts dedicated to this non-sensikal madness but I can't get it together...

Some bloggers with a little emotional distance from it have taken ol' KK to task:

Check out one of my favorite bloggers here.

And a new found gem here.

What say you?
